Falmouth to Martha's Vineyard Bike Ride
Let's SEA. EXPLORE. EXPERIENCE. the "vineyard!" Let's beat the commuter traffic and head down early to arrive Falmouth between 8:00 - 8:20 a.m. so that we may be on our way to Woods Hole by 8:30 a.m. There is Free Parking at the lot next to the Peter Pan Bus Terminal at 59 Depot Ave Falmouth. (Across the street from the Peter Pan lot) GPS address for lot is 68 Highfield Drive.
We will ride our bikes to Woods Hole and arrive in enough time to pick up a coffee and/snack at Pie in the Sky. Roundtrip adult & bike tickets are $27.00 and may be purchased at the Woods Hole Ticket Office. Ferry departs at 9:30 a.m. and we can plan on the 6:15 p.m. return. Bike rentals available--e-bikes, too, near the ferry terminal.
Martha’s Vineyard has everything you’ll need to hit the road and explore the Island via bicycle. Even the public buses have bike racks!
Bike riding on Martha’s Vineyard is simply spectacular. Upon arrival we will ride along the waterfront and through the Oak Bluffs neighborhoods, including the famous Gingerbread Meeting Campground before heading out on Beach Road to Edgartown. This will be a fun and bike-rider friendly event. Our route will take us along the stunning six-mile, paved trail travels along the Nantucket Sound on one side and the 7-acre Sengekontacket Pond on the other, and is entirely flat. It’s definitely one of the most popular trails on the Island because of its stunning views. Bikers can even take a pit stop and go for a swim at State Beach. There are plenty of bike racks along the way!
We will stop for scenic views and water breaks before enjoying lunch in Edgartown. You are welcome to pack a lunch, stop at Stop & Shop to pick up snack or lunch, or take advantage of the take-out restaurants and concessions in Edgartown. Our plan is to enjoy our lunch at the picnic tables by the Chappaquiddick Ferry launch area.
There will be plenty of time in Edgartown for shopping, browsing, photo ops, ice cream, or iced cold refreshments.
Remember to bring a bike lock, water, and sunscreen (bathing suit optional for jump from the Shark Bridge!) Total ride: Falmouth to Woods Hole, local Oak Bluffs, to Edgartown and return to Falmouth is approx 24 miles.
We will plan to meet at 4 p.m. at the Lookout Restaurant near the Oak Bluffs ferry terminal for pay-as-you-go refreshments.
