BIKE RIDE - PLUM ISLAND TO SEABROOK ROUNDTRIP
Thursday, May 15
1:00 p.m. - 4 p.m. + Optional Apres-Bike Ride @ Sunset Club
PLUM ISLAND BACKWARDS RIDE!
Well not really backwards but in reverse from our usual route! Before the island gets too busy this summer, we will start/finish at Plum Island providing close proximity for a great optional Apres-Bike Ride gathering at the Sunset Club---food, firepits, and friendships, and more. So actually it's a ride in reverse to one of our popular Plum Island routes.
There are several parking options before meeting at the Plum Island Grille with your bicycle: 1st choice-subj. to availability is along the road opposite the Plum Island Grille as you take a right to head out to the Parker Game Reserve, or 2nd choice-in the lot by the marsh just before you reach the Plum Island bridge. It will be the second right after the "pink house."
Today's route will take us along Southern Boulevard where we will do a loop back out to PI center then continue along Northern Boulevard. We will take a right onto 55th Street and ride a couple of blocks before taking a left which will take us back out to Northern Boulevard. After a brief water/restroom break at the harbor (aka George's Beach), we will head back via 78th Street, Northern Boulevard, 6th Street, Plum Island Turnpike which turns into Water Street where we we join the Clipper City Trail. Following alongside the Merrimack River we will head through (or around) Waterfront Park depending on construction and cross the river via the Gillis Bridge to connect to the Salisbury Rail Trail. We will continue to Lions Park just beyond the Ghost Trail where we may stop for a snack before heading back to Plum Island Turnpike via Clipper City Rail Trail and Lincoln Street.
Upon our return, we will load up our bikes and drive/park at the Sunset Club. There is a 3-hour time limit along the road, so we will be certain to return by 4 p.m. unless everyone has opted for the alternate (just prior to the PI Bridge.)
Approximate mileage: 22 mi. Please have a spare tire tube with you. Helmets are mandatory on our rides.
